Assistance with polystyrene texture.

Recommended Posts

I am trying to make a background that looks like polystyrene. I have looked at the textures section of the tutorials, but can't seem to find something that resembles it. Is there a plugin or method that I could try in order to get what I want. I know I could use google to search for a texture, but I would prefer to make my own. Something like the attatched image.

Thank you in advance.

Looks like there is some other ways to create that :D,

But this was my long method:

You need Splinter plugin:

1- Cloud default

2- Crystalize 12

3- Outline default (Effect > Stylize > Outline)

4- Auto Level several times till you see all black lines clearly

5- Gaussian Blue default

6- Splinter Blur (Splinters= 50, Distance= 3, Mode=Lighten)

7- Duplicate layer, Zoom it in to Double size the cells (or as taste), and set the blend mode to Multiply

8- Adjustment > Brightness= -100, Contrast= -50

9- Flatten Image and run Emboss with desired Angle (Effect > Stylize > Emboss)

Good Luck :)

  • 1 year later...

This thread is outdated, but it would be nice to see that mini tut over in the tutorial section. (unless it is there and I missed it?)

I didn't follow the tutorial myself yet, but this is what it makes, right? If so, I like it.

It is in the mini tutorial thread; that's where I first spotted it. This thread may be "outdated," but the method isn't. The linked picture is, indeed, what it produces. I'll probably use the Black and White adjustment followed by the Threshold plugin or the Curves adjustment in place of multiple applications of Auto Level, because it seems a bit more direct. The method can be used with my Texture Shader plugin in place of Emboss to produce a variety of results. The reason I've wanted this type of texture is to produce something resembling pebbled leather.
