paint.net 4.0 beta build 5152 is now available

Congratulation for all that work done on this software.

 

Maybe it's a thing that was already said, but When I open a PDN file and adjust the size of the layers window (to see all the layer), if I close paint.net and then open a new PDN file, Paint.net doesn't keep in memory the position and the size of the layer window.

the pen, brush and eraser don't do anything until the value is at least set to 1?

Rectangle is gets created though with Alpha = 0

 

Example:
Alpha = 0, Eraser click --> Nothing (not even in the undo list)

 

 

Oh, second thing: is there an option to expand a selection?
Use magic wand, to select object, then set selction plus 1 to have the selection bigger by one pixel (in each direction)? Because the tolerance setting i not always working as I wish it would...

When trying either to update, uninstall, or manually install a newer version over build 5105 just errors out,

as you can see on the screenshot, on a fully updated win 8 x64 PC.

 

Any ideas? Thanks in advance and keep up the great work.

Technically that's a bug in 3.5 ... Ctrl+D is the shortcut for Edit->Deselect and it's only by accident that it's worked as a "commit" button ...

 

And practically this was really helpful, as Ctrl+D is far better reachable than "Enter".

True, if your right hand is on the mouse and left is on the keyboard, but Esc also works to commit the shape, as does pressing any shortcut key for another tool.

I'm stuck at 5105, can't uninstall it, can't update it through the app

and can't manually install 5152 or any other version over it because it crashes at the removal of previous version step.

 

The error is alwsays: PaintDotNet_88696556.msi missing.

 

Any thoughts?

thanks for the answer, pyrochild.

Installed the cleanup utility, removed the installer entry for paint.net, rerun the utility to confirm the entry was gone, restarted the PC,

checked that there was no paint.net in features&programs, and tried to install the current build from scratch, but... fatal error 1603.

What the heck???

Being a lazy person like me, I liked how ctrl+d to commit allowed me to keep my hand basically in one position for hotkeys, since almost all the ones I use involve the ctrl key. Moving my pinky finger off ctrl to press esc burns too many precious calories

Was hoping this might have already been mentioned, but I searched the forums and couldn't find any satisfactory results...

 

In build 5143 and 5152 my text tool does not seem to have "Small Fonts" available to it. I've checked MS Paint, and the font is definitely on my system. I hadn't used the font previous to installing the 4.0 alphas/betas, but I think this problem may have existed in my install of 3.x as well.

"Small Fonts" looks like it's a bitmap font. Those are not supported anymore.

Thanks for allowing to change the color scheme between blue and light. It looks like that dialogs use the light scheme always. I would prefer to get the grayish one back if blue scheme is selected.

 

Is there a way for plugins to detect which scheme is used so that they can adapt their background?

 

+1 for the grey background. Wasn't there a thing that happened ages ago and everybody agreed grey was the right colour for a background? I remember something about a rude women, it's kinda fuzzy though. Then again, maybe I'm crazy. Anything other than a grey background messes with your colour perception. Like viewing stuff through red tint and still being able to tell if something is green (even though objectively it's red). Anyway, I don't know when it happened, but semi-transparent brushes now work perfectly. Thanks, Rick.

If you copy an image from the web on IE11 and then open the New dialog in Paint.NET, Paint.NET immediately crashes if you type anything or click a button. Doesn't happen with images copied from any other browser or program.

bEPIK, which gray are you referring to? The gray background of the canvas, or the gray background of dialogs (e.g. Image -> Resize)?

 

I'm not bEPIK but I talked in what he quoted about the dialogs (the background in the blue scheme is gray already).

 

One additional think about the blue scheme. Could you change the look of the close button on the active image tab back to the vista style as in 3.5.11? In the moment it's this flat red look.

 

BTW: This close button behaves a little bit strange. If you are pressing the button and dragging the pointer out of the close button bounds then the button disappears and never reappears. But the click behaviour is correct. So if the mouse is out of bounds the close operation will not be executed.
