Me!
That looks pretty cool, don't like the text though.
By the way, here is a tutorial.

Some work better than others, so it may take more than once. The dents effect the outcome, so some randomization sadly comes into play.

I like it a lot, used it as my facebook picture. What do you all think?

Look, I know I'm REALLY late in responding to the question of how to do the crescent on the helio sig, and chances are, you've already figured it out. However, on the off chance that you haven't, I hope I'm not overstepping my bounds by offering the easiest method I've found for creating it.
First, using the line tool, draw from top to bottom and give it a nice curve.
http://i218.photobuc...ass/stepone.png
Next, gaussian blur it at about 10-13
http://i218.photobuc...ass/steptwo.png
Finally, draw a transparent linear reflected gradient. Easy as pie.

Not sure if you actually needed that information, but I thought I'd offer it anyway. I look forward to seeing more from you.

Love them both lol!!
Thanks!
I like the shapes in both of them.
So do I. The new one is my favorite.
I don't have a great imagination. Rarely do I plan out the image that I make. I mess around with tools, use a few effects, then polish it up in any way I can. That's why most of my stuff is abstract. The orange effect is just stocks with a single effect on them. Not too greatWow, AGJM! You have done some seriously remarkable work! I truly admire your imagination (something I seem to be lacking). The orange glow art is among my favorite. Just a very cool effect you've achieved with those.

I typically make crescents by using a large brush and making a single dot, then using a slightly larger or smaller eraser to take away from it. Then, blur. It works even better with black; you can use the alpha mask plugin to give it a gradient.

I tried to make it look like the text was held between the two sides of blue. Came out a bit jaggy, so a few blurs were used.

Just a suggestion: I think that if you duplicated the 2 blue halves, and on first layer erase the left side and on the second layer erase the right side, you can then put the letters in a layer in-between these and the first layer would slightly overlap the lettering. This should improve the effect of it being "held between" the two sides.

Easier: Select one side with a selection tool. Ctrl+c then edit > cut then ctrl+v - paste into new layer. Its a bit quicker, for me.
I didn't do it because it looked like it would be
Another thought is to do that with the back part of one side, then put it into a layer behind the front (adding to the 3D effect.)

I'd write something about it, but with my luck I'd refresh the page or something.

Lice outcome but put the text on the right side for maximum impact.

@BBQ: Okay, it's in quotes just because the fun in the typo gave me a good chuckle. I've got all sorts of very bizarre concepts of what a "Lice outcome" might be ... Some include zombies of course ... Other's are a little more Disney'esque just because I can force myself down that path.
@AGJM: The new one has a new feel to it. (I couldn't resist the double loop on the language.) Reminds me of light painting. Sort of neat stuff if you've not run across it before. Very long exposure and use of things like fire, flashlights and led arrays to "paint" light images into the exposures. Thankfully digital makes these far less painful than the old days. Might give you some additional inspiration since a lot of the best light paintings derive from orbital mechanics.

you can use the alpha mask plugin to give it a gradient.
Alpha Masks are always confusing to me. I've used them a few times before but it's like I can't quite grasp how to use it most effectively.
Like it never seems to work the same way

Orbs give a feeling of completion, at least to me. I'm glad that I'm starting to show a particular style, but I'll try to be unpredictable. That inspires more creativity.Very Impressive!! I love your new line of works (I can tell you like the orbs)
My negativity comes and goes. Usually comes when my house is too loud or I haven't eaten in a while or I'm stressed. Thanks. I just realized my mistake on the text too... Constructive criticism for the win!Lice outcome but put the text on the right side for maximum impact.

I googled it. It does look similar to that! Even with safesearch on strict, though, there was a (slightly) explicit image. Not good. I'm glad I don't have to watch my backOk, that is it - agjm, you're safe for a while - going to chase Delpart for laughing at my typo instead

Yeah, I think he is right.
Alpha masks are most useful for things like gradients in text and such. It works best by drawing an object in pure black on a layer with a transparent background. Ctrl+a, ctrl+c, ctrl+d. Then, draw the color/design you want to have fill the object filled with. Minimize the black layer, if you didn't already, select the color/design layer, then run alpha mask. Non-inverted makes a transparent cut in the color. Inverted cuts out anything that is not where the black from the other layer is. You'll understand it better if you try it hands on, just goof off with it in your spare time.Alpha Masks are always confusing to me. I've used them a few times before but it's like I can't quite grasp how to use it most effectively.
