The result would be everything but an image file, as every pixel consists of 4 bits (to my knowledge, at least). Rick Brewster Posted May 21, 2010 Share Posted May 21, 2010 You need to determine whether you need 1-bpp for stylistic reasons, or for bandwidth/storage reasons. For stylistic reasons, the trick with Brightness&Contrast will work fine. For bandwidth/storage, you can either save with another app (I'm sure GIMP can do it), or apply B&C, then save as whatever format, and then stuff it into a ZIP. Since every pixel will be #FF000000 or #FFFFFFFF, it'll compress really well. It is simply a feature that not many people ask for, and so it's never been implemented. There's no technical reason that makes it impossible; the feature just isn't there. In my job i have a laser marking machine to work whith dxf files, but to do some things for me i now that the machine recognize pcx files in some conditions... And the complete process of converting is, Foto in jpg with 16 bits, convert to 1 bit, black and white, floyd steinberg and finaly to pcx file. Every time i have tryed, the result in the program from machine (LaserCad) is a black window( i think because much bits per pixel). The idea is to engrave fotos on anodized aluminium. Altarakan 70 Posted April 27, 2022 Share Posted April 27, 2022 You can make it 1-bit (or look like 1-bit i don't know) by clicking save button on usaved image, then entering the name and choosing where you want to save it, click save, and then changing the Bit Depth to 1 bit. it si better than if you make it black and white and turning the contrast to 100% because it uses dithering and the file is maybe actualy 1-bit Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
