32-bit bitmaps

Nope. PNG is recommended instead -- which the VS icons are also available in.

BMP doesn't officially support a proper alpha channel, btw. 32-bit, yes, but with no specification for what that 4th channel is for. The GDI+ codecs don't even preserve it, iirc.

The reason I ask is because I needed to use an image that is already in 32-bit bitmap form. The only way I can do this currently is to use the gimp to open it and save it as a png, then reopen it in paint.net.

I tried writing a FileType plugin for it, but I got that darned "WindowsBase version 3.0.0.0" error

I'll get back to you after I fix that

edit: Ok here you go, I couldn't find any way to make PDN use this plugin for 32bit BMP's other than giving it a different extension, so you'll have to rename your BMP's to bmpx if you want to open them with this plugin.

It's not very well tested, but it worked with the 32bit BMP's from visual studio - at least for as much as I tested. It shouldn't work on any other type of bmp.

Edit: Removed zip. Please post in Plugins section instead.

I would write plugins, if I knew what kind of plugins were needed.. :(

Darn. Got here too late. Harold, would you mind reposting it in the plugins forum?

Edit: By the way, Rick, the icons I needed were 32x32 icons, which as far as I can tell, weren't supplied in png format.
