How to make a fireball-looking thing

This picture shows what will be made:

First, make a new sheet (I used the default 800/600).

Start out by making a nebulous (Effects -> textures -> Nebulous).

14f2b5521906726ed3d57eaac41f115c.png

Use the Color Tint effect (Effects -> Color -> Color Tint) at any hue and saturation (just make sure that your nebulous only has one color in different nuances) (I used hue 133 and saturation 255).

Hinotama_step_2_by_kasperow.png

Use the Color Filter effect (Effects -> Color -> Color Filter) at hue 312, saturation 255 and 'preserve highlights' at 100.

Hinotama_step_5_by_kasperow.png

Use the Frosted Glass effect (Effects -> Distort -> Frosted Glass) at any value you see fit. (I used 25 and 5 for max. and min. values)

Hinotama_step_4_by_kasperow.png

Then, use the TwistZ with Zoom effect (Effects -> Distort -> TwistZ with Zoom) at amount 30 and zoom 30. The other values at default. Now, if done right, you should have something that looks like a wave of water or tsunami (at least that's what I had at this moment).

Finish of your fireball by using the Fire! effect (Effects -> Render -> Fire!).

There you go, you've now made a Fireball (or something that looks like a fireball at least). Please let me know what you think of this tutorial. It's the first one I've ever written so I'd like some feedback. If the pictures are not shown, please let me know and tell me how I can make them visible, using the pictures on my deviantart account.

There's a fine line between luck and skills. I just can't see where I put it.

Nice Tut. Very easy to follow, short and always learn new things from

every tut. I can see a lot of possibilities with this. Here's mine...

Sure thing.

As far as I know, nebolous, color tint and color filter are default in 3.36.

TwistZ with zoom can be found here.

Fire! can be found here.

If some the other three effects aren't default pdn3.36 effects, let me know.

Sorry to break it to ya, but nebulous is not default in 3.36. I can't find it anywhere.

I also tried search but there isn't anything that has the word "Nebulous" except this thread.

Could someone point out the direction of it? if it even exists...

We should all be... Alive...

It's not. I have Ed Harvey's pack, and Nebulous is not one of them.

The Doctor: There was a goblin, or a trickster, or a warrior... A nameless, terrible thing, soaked in the blood of a billion galaxies. The most feared being in all the cosmos. And nothing could stop it, or hold it, or reason with it. One day it would just drop out of the sky and tear down your world.
Amy: But how did it end up in there?
The Doctor: You know fairy tales. A good wizard tricked it.
River Song: I hate good wizards in fairy tales; they always turn out to be him.

I'm missing something here...

I'm good until I render fire. When I do, it appears as the usual curtain of flame instead of twisting around the highlights. How do I correct it?

I didn't have to change the blend mode at any point. Did you do exactly as written, there shouldn't be any problem. Otherwise, I don't know how your problem could exist. If you just have the 'tsunami' you shouldn't have to change anything at all. Just use the Fire! plugin, that's all.

There's a fine line between luck and skills. I just can't see where I put it.

I followed each step making sure that I did what was listed above using all of the appropriate plugins.

I get to this stage and everything looks fine...

Fireball1.jpg

Then I select Effects > Render > Fire... and leave it at the default settings and get this..

For those who don't have color tint, follow this link

Then, follow the link on the top to get the newest version of the Plug-in pack where I found Color Tint.

Very easy, simple tut with a nice outcome. Heres my stab at it:

Can't this be done by using the fire-effect and twist?

EDIT: This is what I got with The fire effect and twist: 21aieep.png

Perhaps not exactly the same, But pretty close.

The post above probably has crappy art.. Just look past that

How is that close? I'm sorry, but it really does not look like the same thing.

Well, it is pretty close, Got the fire look and a twist, I mean my way isn't as fuzzy, But its still nice Pretty nice outcome either way, So I suppose you can use any way, But I can't find the Neboulous or whatever plugin

excellent job kasperow! Here is my go with using some of my tutorial, which can be found here. (If you like the outcome)
