Very cool! Nice use of Xor!

This is what the Exploding Planet tutorial should've been!

Look in the plugins section, or use the forum's nifty Search feature to find the plugin.

Yay! somebody posted an image! (Which looks absolutely amazing btw  )

Ben...correct me if I'm wrong, but was this part of the inspiration for this tutorial?

I got the inspiration from this (the top image) and the super nova that I did on that. I don't know if that answers your question or not.

It sounds like a "no" to me...that definitely qualifies as an answer :)

Nice post, good effort

This method does not work for high resolution graphics :(

To do this to full effect you need to scale the clouds to the resolution you are currently using.

Welcome to the forum, Geoff! :D

What specificially does not work for high resolution graphics?

When using high resolution, the explosion doesn't look as good as it does on a resolution such as 800x600

Could you please post a link to your image? I'm sure I can figure out how to adapt it for hi res.

Mine is somewhat Different:

What I idid was I set clouds at default

Duplicated Layer

Set twist to 20 on the top layer

Set twist -40 on bottom

Layer Properties Xor

Made a Firey effect using the curves tool

Merge Layer

Zoom blur at 200.....

Here's your result:

It looks cool, but it seems a bit dark for an explosion, but nice effect non the less. :D I am glad to see people are using and adapting my tutorial.
