EDIT: Use the Anti-Alias option in the Shape3D plugin.

Put a check mark on it, Set to level 3 ~ 4 would be enough.

This will make your "3d" object look much much better!

Use this option for the last step as selecting it will make rendering much slower

==================================================================

Many users have asked how to put different pic on different sides of a box using the Shape3D Plugin.

Since quite a few people asked me to do some Shape3D tut.

I guess I will start with this since it's the easiest one :)

This is already on MKT's site, but I will try to make it easier to understand :)

Ok, lets get started.

1. Start with image 800x600

2. Use gridmaker or line tool to draw 3 even areas from top to bottom

and 4 even areas from side to side.

Now you have an image with 12 squares.

Optional: You can use Magic wand to select and hit delete button to Erase the squares as in image below. As those are not needed.

1

As you can see in the image above. You are left with 6 squares with are the 6 sides of the cube.

I have labeled each sides so you know which is which.

If you still don't understand, please read on.

Now on a new layer I have made 6 squares with different colors and the edges are not touching. With Transparency - Alpha at 128, and with text labled cut out.

Just like the image below, the black background is on another layer.

2

Once you have done this.

Use the shape3D plugin.

3

Click on the Box tab, And use Dice map

I have unchecked the lighting checkbox so there is no shading at all.

So you can see the sides clearly :)

This is what you will get.

4

And now you should be able to see the relations between the flat 2d squares and the 3d cube.

Hope this helps.

Comments & questions welcome.

Agree with Evil Neko that this tutorial is so useful that if it is stickied, many new users will not need to struggle with the plugin. Stickying it may save countless other requests from other new users who may not find it later when it is buried amongst other tutuorials.

Found another fairly easy way to paste different pictures onto the cube map (not dice map)! Got the idea after seeing Ash's tutorial.

1. Open the picture that should be on one side of the cube.

2. Run the 3D shape plugin & Adjust the object rotation until you obtain the desired position

3. Put a tick only on one surface e.g. Box --> Cube map -->Front

4. On clicking OK, the 3D shape plugin will create only that side of the box.

5. Create another layer and paste another picture with the same dimensions as the original picture in the background layer.

6. Run the 3D shape plugin but selecting a different side of the box - keeping the object rotation unchanged.

7. Repeat step 6 to create each side that you desire with a picture of the exact dimensions as in the background layer.

8. Finally, flattening will result in a box on one layer.

Wonder if some moderator could sticky this tutorial.

For many users, the lack of adequate instructions in English, on the original Japanese webpages, results in the inability to use the excellent plugin to its fullest potential.

If this tutorial were stickied, it would enable Paint.net users to learn how to use all three main features of the shape3D plugin by MKT.

This is an example of a tutorial that I think should have been sticked quite some time ago!
