Thanks for the tut. I struggled a bit with the border, but I persevered and got fairly close.

Here is my attempt. (Now I just need to get rid of the heat register and do it again :-)

Hi!

I can't seem to be able to lay the unfocus layer upon the picture, it just comes in layer of it's own.

What am I doing wrong?

EDIT by david.atwell: Please don't quote the entire tutorial. Thanks!

[The whole tutorial]

Hi!

I can't seem to be able to lay the unfocus layer upon the picture, it just comes in layer of it's own.

What am I doing wrong?

Was there really a need to quote the entire tutorial? I'm sure we know which tutorial you're talking about ;).

Anyway, could you be a little more specific, please? What number step are you stuck on and at which stage of the step?

Have you duplicated the layer ( :DuplicateLayer: )?

Then did you use Unfocus on the duplicated layer ( :Unfocus: )?

If you did those things in that order, you're doing it right.

You use the Radial Gradient Tool ( :GradientTool: > :RadialGradient: ) on Transparency Mode ( :AllColorChannels: > :AlphaChannel: ) to make the bottom layer (the original image before duplication) show through the unfocused layer. You do this on the unfocused layer.

Did that make sense? Did that answer you? Are you still unsure?

EDITED: added quote.

Taken care of. :-)

The Doctor: There was a goblin, or a trickster, or a warrior... A nameless, terrible thing, soaked in the blood of a billion galaxies. The most feared being in all the cosmos. And nothing could stop it, or hold it, or reason with it. One day it would just drop out of the sky and tear down your world.
Amy: But how did it end up in there?
The Doctor: You know fairy tales. A good wizard tricked it.
River Song: I hate good wizards in fairy tales; they always turn out to be him.

But I was wondering if there was anyway of making pictures that look like they are from the 50s, 60s, 70s, and 80s?

Or basically make pictures old, but in color.

It took me a bit since I just got the program and am learning all the tricks.

Here is my attempt:

A photo I took of a Cathedral when visiting Trier, Germany:

And what it became:

Cathedral02.jpg

I definitely like this tutorial, thanks for creating it!

Have you tried not using the sepia? Maybe that could do it.

Thanks so much for this tutorial, I am fairly inexperienced with the program and this helped me immensely!

I am working on a school project in which I had to create a "work of art" which could be a painting, song, poem, etc. But I am not very gifted in the arts, so I asked if I could stage a photograph. My project is about the Great Depression so I took several pictures of my brother in an empty lot across the street from us. I plan to use this picture (below) and two others to create a photo collage mounted on black foam board.

I couldn't have created this without this tutorial thank you so much!
