Portrait in HOPE manner

Well, that was a very interesting lesson indeed @Remake, thank you :)  For one thing - I never knew that you could change the colors in the Gradient Mapping bar like that .

Here is my result and I definitely learned something new today ;)

I learned about it only when studied pyrochild's source code.

@Eli, Che is easily recognizable in your work.

Thank you both for sharing your work!

After some slight tweaking to the right side of the background, adding some dots and diagonal lines, then using Colour flip / Rotate. I came up with this example :)

And a second bigger test, so here's a thumbnail that links to the full-size image

Seerose, after apply Advanced Greyscale effect select a Magic Wand with tolerance of 20-30%. Click in the area marked with an arrow 1. Press and hold the Ctrl key. With Magic Wand successively click in the areas marked by the arrows 2 and then 3 (or only in the areas 1 and 2).

And you get this result:

I hope this helped.

Besides Advanced Greyscale, it's also possible to use TR's Color Reducer or Red ochre's Poster as alternative effects for dividing the picture into the different sections :) Other than that suggestion, I did  another test on Katniss Everdeen:

And since I am a fan of Chicago P.D., here's one poster on the series:
