Assume I selected a rectangle in a loaded image. Then I press Ctrl+X and the selected area is cut. Good. Instead now a checkered area is shown. How can I (automatically) convert this area to a (pre-defined/white) background color? Just deselecting it does not help

Assume I loaded an image into PDN. Then I inserted (via Ctrl+V) another image from windows clipboard. It is displayed afterwards as selected area with a dashed border. When I want to apply it now via menu Layer-->Merge Layers down it does not work: This menu is greyed out/disabled. How else can I merge the selected area otherwise into the original base image?

Currently when I drag an external image from Windows File Explorer onto PDN I am always prompted what I want to do: - Open - Add Layer How can I configure PDN to always automatically open dragged images as new items and never as layer? Peter

How can I define into which directory a (new/changed) picture should be saved by default (e.g. "same as original" or "absolute D:\mypics\")? How can I setup the save (compression) quality for *.jpg pictures (e.g. 97%)?

I prefer to zoom in and out by using the mouse wheel rather than with hotkeys. How can I assign zoom in/out to mouse wheel? How do I re-assign in general a new hotkey (combination) to a certain function?

Occasionally photos contain some bad objects like cranes, power cables, litter, persons in background..... As far as I know Paint.net can help to remove these objects in a smart way by replacing them by adjacent areas and colors. I am thinking about something like to well know, great webservice https://cleanup.pictures/ Unfortunately this WebService offers only smaller downloads of the modified photo. I extracted in the past an older version of Paint.net and adjusted a lot of setting. Now I downloaded the newest version v.4.3.9 but want to keep all the settings from the previous PORTABLE version. How can I achieve this? In other words. which file(s) in Paint.Net (sub)folder does contain all the current settings?

@iron67 Thank you for the answer. However you wrote "this question is indeed necessary". I don't agree in general. Why not letting users decide whether this question is necessary or not. Just add an option if the user wants to be asked or not. Is there an official FeatureRequest tracker? Peter

Is it somehow possible to assign new key combinations to menu function. In order to have the "usual" key combination resp. to keep the key combinations from other popular picture editors I would prefer to re-adjust them in Paint.Net. Just one example: I want to assign SHIFT+R for "Crop to selection" If this is currently NOT possible: Can this feature be implemented in the next release? Thank you Peter

When I open a new installed Paint.NET then I have two area with tool icons: The toolbar and the toolbox. Can I somehow merge them? I would appreciate it really if I could have ONE toolbar with all the toolbox icons? Even more: It would be good to make the toolbar (and toolbox) customizable. Is this possible or can this be implemented in the next release? Peter
