Question about the drop menu called "Fill"
IRON67 replied to Chip's topic in Paint.NET Discussion and Questions
My personal advice - because the available fill-pattern are in my eyes to much regular or homogen - is another way. Select the area which you want to change, paste it in a new layer (at the same location) and then try add noise or grain with minimum of color saturation. Then you can choose a desired blending mode (layer options) and opacity. Possible result (left side original, right side with grain): -
Semi-OT: Windows 10 & Paint Dot Net
IRON67 replied to Marilynx's topic in Paint.NET Discussion and Questions
True words. I'm installing new software very rarely and only if absolutely necessary. Because of the unwanted sideeffects I'm very conservative. Most people install all stuff that is advertised in their favorite magazine or website. -

Because you haven't deactivated the responsible Windows Update. I have seen this message exactly one time Never again. -
Semi-OT: Windows 10 & Paint Dot Net
IRON67 replied to Marilynx's topic in Paint.NET Discussion and Questions
In Win7 thats possible too, but I have disabled this option. I'm very oldfashioned and don't like all the new "Features". The only things of interest for me are full control over (security)updates and a simple design without any animation effect. I really hate this stuff. -

Maybe your installation is broken. Try PDNrepair.exe in your Paint.net folder first. -

Semi-OT: Windows 10 & Paint Dot Net
IRON67 replied to Marilynx's topic in Paint.NET Discussion and Questions
Upgrading has two main reasons: being able to use the advantages and possibilities of modern hardware and software and to minimize security risks, that not more being patched on an older system because of the end of the patch support. I still using Windows 7 but 2020 I have to change to Windows 10 or whatever will be actual, including an new computer. Because my old PC (now 8 years) still works fine and I don't need new hardware, I can wait a little bit. -
Suggestion || Blemish / Band Aid Tool
IRON67 replied to WTFckJack's topic in Paint.NET Discussion and Questions
For me it IS the same and I use it often for exact this purpose without any problems. What exactly is in your eyes the problem? Here an example from my images: Just using Clone Tool, no additional layers, no other plugins, ~2 minutes: Tipp: Change the Opacity/Alpha of your primary color to ~128-150, the Hardness for your Clone Brush to Zero (0)% and always choose a brush width bigger than the part you want to make disappear. For example: if this part is 15 pixels wide you need a brush width of ~35 pixels except the part is located on a very sharp edge between two different colors or light and shadow. -
Really helpful and time-saving! Thx.

Must know things to New Users

In my experience, many people already have a problem understanding that a picture is made up of pixels, not objects that you can simply "remove" or move - especially when it comes to text in the picture. -
Magnifying Glass Water Droplet Button

Rotate / Zoom is Part of Paint.Net and not a external plugin. You find it in the program-menu under Layers or Ctrl+Shift+Z. -

Can I somehow move while zoomed?
IRON67 replied to cartooN's topic in Paint.NET Discussion and Questions
So don't zoom simply by clicking the "+" in the lower right corner of the programm window, but choose the zoom selection by using the magnifier in your toolbox, so the edge is in the selection. Or don't zoom to much. Or expand temporarly the canvas arount the image. -

Maybe you have Antialiasing enabled so your selection isn't accurate. Disable it or change the tolerance for selection. -
No automatic antialiasing?
IRON67 replied to anderpainter's topic in Paint.NET Discussion and Questions
Because other Apps do, what YOU want automatically, that doesn't means that this is a good idea. What, if someone NOT want antialised edges? I prefer applications, that doesn't do to much automatically. I want to decide. Beside AA's Assistant Tweak Transparency V2 is my favorite choice to soften the edges. Check your Profile and the Notification Settings.
